Dr. Bernard Cohen joined WellCare in August 2008, and serves as the Vice President of Quality Management. He has more than 34 years of experience as a physician and clinical leader.
In his current role, he is responsible for setting the strategic direction for quality management and has oversight of WellCare’s quality operations.
Previously, he served as WellCare’s Vice President of Care Management and was Senior Medical Director in Georgia, with responsibility for state health services functions, including quality improvement and obstetrical case management. He has also served as WellCare’s senior clinical leader for regulatory, government and network interface in Georgia.
Prior to joining WellCare, he was the Senior Medical Director for Coventry Health Care of Georgia. Earlier in his career, he served as the Vice President and Medical Director of Managed Care for Shands Jacksonville Medical Center and University of Florida Jacksonville Healthcare. He was Chief Medical Officer for HealthCare USA and has held clinical leadership roles with AvMed Health Plans and Capital Health Plan. Dr. Cohen also has experience running a succesful family practice and serving as a staff physician for the U.S. Navy.
Dr. Cohen earned his bachelor’s and M.D. from Tulane University and his MBA from the University of South Florida. He completed his residency in family practice at the Naval Aerospace Regional Medical Center in Pensacola, Fla. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice and a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Cohen has active medical licenses in Florida and Georgia.
